New Haven, Connecticut - June 3, 2024- Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs, Inc. is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded $158,033 to support its FAFSA Student Support Strategy for the 2024-25 FAFSA application cycle. This three-month award, funded by Educational Credit Management Corporation (ECMC) through the U.S. Department of Education, comes at a crucial time as significant changes to the student financial aid application process have been introduced, including a new application form, eligibility criteria, terminology, and requirements for parents and other contributors, as well as a shorter timeline for submission.
Â
The FAFSA Student Support Strategy aims to increase the number of students who complete a 2024-25 FAFSA and enroll in college, particularly first-time students.
Â
This generous award from ECMC will enable Higher Heights to expand its reach by hiring additional bilingual college access advisors. These advisors will directly connect with Connecticut high school students from the class of 2024 who have not yet submitted their FAFSA forms.
Â
Dr. Chaka, Founder and Executive Director of Higher Heights, emphasized the importance of this initiative: "For Connecticut, this support is crucial. It will allow our college access advisors to help students access Connecticut’s free community colleges and ensure families have access to four-year institutions and trade schools as well."
Â
Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs, Inc. is committed to empowering, encouraging, and equipping students to obtain a post-secondary education. With this new funding, the organization is poised to make an even greater impact in the community, ensuring that more students have the opportunity to pursue higher education and achieve their career goals.
