Higher heights partners with Waterbury to support local students

Offering a Career and College Empowerment Program

NEW HAVEN, CT, January 29, 2024 — Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs, Inc. is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with the city of Waterbury to introduce the Career and College Empowerment Program aimed at local 8th-grade students. This initiative is designed to pave the way for young students to explore various career paths and gain essential skills for their future academic and professional endeavors.

A press event is scheduled for Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, at Silas Bronson Library, where the community is invited to learn more about the opportunities this new program offers. This collaboration brings together the expertise and resources of the Waterbury NAACP, and the Silas Bronson Library, creating a comprehensive support system for students.

The program, which will run two to three days a week after school, features career panels, workshops, and opportunities for students to explore a range of career options and certifications. In addition, it aims to provide financial literacy resources for parents, ensuring that the entire family is equipped with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their children's education and future careers.

Wendy Tyson-Cook, President of the Waterbury Chapter of the NAACP, expressed her enthusiasm for the program: “We are excited to have this highly successful program in Waterbury. I have worked with Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs, Inc. and Dr. Chaka Felder-McEntire for over ten years, and the results are real.”

Dr. Chaka Felder-McEntire, Executive Director shares, “Higher Heights is committed to empowering under-represented students to achieve their post-secondary education goals. This partnership with Waterbury is a testament to our dedication to providing equitable access to educational resources and support, ensuring that every young person in Connecticut has the opportunity to pursue higher education and become a future leader in our community.”
